Student Spotlight – Tasneem Docrat

1. In what year did you matriculate from Al-Falaah College?

2003

2. What steered you towards this field of study?

Teaching is a way of uplifting children and instilling a good set of values in them. In their formative years at school, it is the teacher that imprints on them to a large extent. This coupled with my love for children, gave me the drive to pursue a profession as an educator.

3. Can you please expand on your most recent achievements?

I have recently graduated cum laude in Bachelor of Education in foundation phase. Further to this, I also have a home based business called Chill Pills. (@chillpills_za – for your yummy prescriptions).

4. What do you enjoy most about your job?

Being in the classroom is my happy place. I love interacting with my learners. In their formative years, they are always eager to learn something new. It is only a teacher that will understand the feeling of accomplishment when seeing your learners imbibe new concepts and reach their milestones.

5. Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

My father has always taught us to reach for the stars in our dreams and aspirations. In that way, even if we fall short, we will end up on the moon. As a “long shot” that it may be, I would love to one day have my own educational institute. Whether that happens in the next 5 years or not is up to Allah (SWT).

6. When you are not working, what do you find yourself doing?

Spending time with my family.

7. What would you attribute your success to?

According to the teachings of our beloved Nabi Muhammad ﷺ , we are advised to make dua for our parents and our teachers on a daily basis. My success and achievements are only through the duas of my parents and teachers. In turn, through their duas, Allah (SWT) has looked upon me with a kinder eye and allowed me through His mercy to achieve my goals thus far.

8. If one is interested in this field of study, what would one need to do and what advice would you give them?

Pursuing an educational degree that is recognised worldwide, must be done at a reputable institute. There are many colleges that offer this degree but not all are recognised worldwide. Secondly, the tertiary years of one’s life, determines the outcome of one’s life. Spend those years studying hard and you will reap the rewards in many years to come.

9. How did Al-Falaah College contribute to your life and choices?

I have spent the majority of my schooling career at Al- Falaah College and it would be foolish of me to think that they did not contribute to who I am today. I could never thank my teachers who walked me through my schooling years, guided me, advised me and showed me the right path. I would like to make a special mention of Mr Bayat who always encouraged me and guided me into making the correct decisions.
