His Little Bird - A Poem by Bilqees Ebrahim, Asma Bux, Amina Moola, Aliyaa Bodi Bassa
He called her his darling
His little bird
But then he cut off her wings
And listened to the screams,
That no one else heard
He said she was too brittle,
Too fragile to fly
When in reality he plucked her wings,
And left her to die
Her friends tried to open,
The cage on her heart
But he stole the only key
And tore her apart
But now she’s free,
To flap her wings
So proudly, she will soar
And let her freedom sing
